4     Sigarda, Host of Herons

Round 1 I faced Black/Red Zombies
My opponent seemed a bit inexperienced.  His deck was also odd because he seemed to have a pretty low mana curve, but kept getting land flooded.  The only creatures that came out were a Blood Artist, Diregraf Ghoul, Phyrexian Metamorph (copied and killed Gisela), and Diregraf Captain.  This was a pretty easy roll for me, as my Wolfir Avengers and Restoration Angels caught my opponent off guard in the attack phase.

Round 2 I faced Red/Blue Miracle Control
My first round game ended quickly, and I actually watched my opponent play his round 1 games 2 and 3.
[Kinda cheaty?, I am not sure]
His deck revolved around Arcane Melee, Bonfire of the Damned, Devil's Play and Temporal Mastery.
He got none of those cards out against me.  For whatever reason, he had mana trouble and the pace of my deck was just too quick.  (The guy had to pay 2 mana to "Ponder" because of Thalia, for example)  Cavern of Souls also made my creatures immune to Mana Leak.

Round 3 I faced Mono Green Stompy
Champion of Lambholt and Primordial Hydra gave me a beating in game 1 of this round.  I didn't think anything in my sideboard would be epically useful, but Thalia was near useless, so I sided her out for 3 Sigardas.  In game two, I was able to use Garruk Relentless' ultimate and trample over damage to put my opponent to exactly 0 life (lucky break for me).  In game 3 I dropped Gisela, Blade of Goldnight on turn 3.
My opponent only had birds to block, and was rolled over (despite having a 16/16 Primordial Hydra)
(another lucky break for me)

Round 4 I faced Wolf Run Ramp
This is the same wolf run ramp that my Red/Green deck got crushed by. (In my defense, that deck was pretty poor) [My opponent and I are the only 3-0's, I offered a draw, but he did not accept because there was a chance that I could take first if another match went the other way]
In game 1 I was rushed over and stomped by Primeval Titan and friends.
Game two I was able to get a Wolfir Silverheart paired with a Restoration Angel to Pummel face.
Game three, he is on the play.  He plays Birds turn 1, sword of Feast and Famine turn two.
I play clifftop retreat (tapped) then a forest.
On his three he plays a land and equips Sword to the Birds.  I promptly Naturalize the sword.
On my turn 3, I drop a Somberwald Sage.
On turn 4, my opponent drops a Solemn Simulacrum.
I drop Gisela, Blade of Goldnight.
Turn 5, my opponent swings with Solemn, I take one.  He taps out to play Primeval Titan (getting Wolf Run and Inkmoth Nexus)
I swing with Gisela (for 10) and play a Daybreak Ranger and Avacyn's Pilgrim.
Turn 6, my opponent swings with Primeval Titan, getting another Inkmoth Nexus.  He has a bird to chump block, an Inkmoth Nexus and Kessig Wolf Run.  He plays Rampant growth.
I tap the Daybreak Ranger to kill the Bird of Paradise.  I play an Acidic Slime, destroying the untapped Inkmoth Nexus.  Gisela swung for the other half of his life.

My very first 4-0 at FNM.  My round 4 opponent took second.  A young lady playing TurboFog (actually, she semi-piloted the deck, and asked her boyfriend for repeated instruction.  I was surprised their opponents let this slide...) took 3rd.

So, I really enjoy playing this deck.  The tempo is excellent (Turn 3 and 4 Giselas' are tough to overcome, apparently no one is playing removal?) and the cards have a lot of synergy with each other.  Looks like M13 releases in about 4 days, so I get to deal with that.

Until next time.
